Introduction to the student survey

Over 600 students at Northgate High School in Ipswich participated in a survey aimed at identifying their thoughts and experiences of bike and vehicle crime, criminal damage and graffiti in their area.

The survey, which was designed by the School Council, took place during Easter 2008. The overall winner, Grace Milner, was presented with £40.00 worth of vouchers by the Mayor of Ipswich (Councillor Inga Lockington).

The survey, and the student responses, are listed below:

 

How safe is your bike?

Bikes represent an important environmentally friendly and sustainable form of transport

They are also easily stolen.
Across Ipswich two bikes a week
are stolen from insecure sheds

The average time taken to steal a locked bike is 71 seconds
