Community
Safety
Our
work is designed to make Ipswich safer and to ensure the
safety of all people who live, work and visit Ipswich from
all perspectives.
The
team covers the diverse areas of Crime and Disorder, Substance
Misuse, anti-social Behaviour, the Council's 24/7 Emergency
Services Centre (where the Town Centre CCTV Scheme is monitored,
Ipswich HEARS Community Alarm Service is run, where the
out of hours stand-by service is run and where severe weather
warnings are received), Corporate Health and Safety and
Emergency Planning.
The Crime and Disorder staff work to develop and co-ordinate
effective crime reduction programmes within the Borough.
This is done by co-ordinating implementation of the statutory
requirements for partnership under the Crime and Disorder
Act 1998, supporting and working in partnership with Council
departments and external agencies and planning and developing
proactive initiatives to reduce crime and disorder.
The
Ipswich Community Safety Partnership is
comprised of several key statutory agencies in Ipswich who
are working together to tackle crime and disorder across
the city. The
Crime and Disorder Act (1998) requires the local councils
and police to work together to address matters of crime
and disorder. The Act outlines the position that by working
with all of the agencies that are affected by, or deal with
crime and disorder, we can produce better and more effective
solutions to the problems we face.
This
partnership, therefore, includes the Borough's key agencies
and is managed by a Responsible Authorities Group that oversees
the work undertaken.
