Domestic violence  - picture of a worried child.Domestic Violence is a crime that can affect people from all social, economic and geographical backgrounds, regardless of age, race, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation.

In Suffolk:

  • 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence or abuse during their lifetime
  • On average 3 women a year will be murdered by partners/ex-partners
  • Children are present at nearly 90% of incidents

Domestic Violence can be physical, sexual, or emotional abuse and can include:

  • Actual or threat of physical harm
  • Deprivation of food, sleep or money
  • Use of weapons
  • Biting, pushing, punching, kicking
  • Isolation from family and friends
  • Humiliation or belittlement
  • Sexual threats or forced sex
  • Emotional blackmail
  • Using your children against you

Domestic Violence takes many forms and can happen repeatedly.
